Atmospheric Ceramics

I live and work in Somerset on the edge of the Blackdowns where I create sculptural and vessels forms in ceramics using a combination of hand building methods.  These are then fired using mainly low firing techniques such as barrel, saggar and raku letting the flame and fire paint the clay with remarkable surface effects and subtle flashes of colour.

The excitement and immediacy of these processes captures my imagination.  Each firing is totally unpredictable because there are so many variables.  I feel joy at producing something unique but at the same time accept the inevitable frustration that it cannot be repeated.  And so to the next firing - another day of magic.
